PPG “Green” Members Combine Forces For Major Wind Energy Shipments

PPG Member TransProject LLC (USA) in coordination with Shin-Jo Logitech Co., Ltd. (Korea); O. Lisboa Despachos Int. Ltda. (Brazil); and Rhenus Logistics, S.A. (Spain); along with Project Support Member Sea-Concert (Thailand) Co., Ltd. (Thailand), have successfully concluded their first shipment of Towers from Kwangyang, Korea to Brazil. As the pictures indicate, this involved a very intricate stow (no room for a wharf rat there!) and all units were loaded safely, on time and on budget. Another similar charter of Towers from Korea has already been arranged, along with two more charters from Spain (Blades) and another from North America.

PPG Japan Deliver Hatch Covers to Varna, Blugaria

Allfort Co., Inc has successfully delivered forty (40) hatch covers with a total volume of 5,026.710 cbm and 1,103.580 tonnes. The hatch coveres were transported from Sasebo, Nagasaki, Japan to Varna, Bulgaria. All hatch covers had varying dimension which made stowage and lashing more complex. The largest dimension was: 19.600m x 5.770m x 1.120m, with a weight of 37.150 tonnes. The hatch covers were delivered alongside the vessel by barge for lifting and stoeage.

Port of Corpus Christi Move forward with Negotiations to sell Former U.S. Naval Station “Ingleside” to Corpus Development, L.P.

The Port Corpus Christi Commission voted unanimous to move forward with negotiations to sell the recently acquired Ingleside Facility (formally known as U.S. Naval Station Ingleside) to Corpus Development, L.P., for a base purchase price of One Hundred Ten Million ($110,000,000.00) Dollars. The announcement took place at the monthly Port Corpus Christi Commission meeting, Tuesday, August 10, 2010. “Due to the tremendous impact this development will generate for the City of Ingleside and the region, the Commissioners carefully studied all potential candidates and determined that Corpus Development, L.P. has the best qualifications of all to move forward with the redevelopment of the facility.” said Mike Carrell, Chairman, Port Commission.

More beer to the world: PPG Partners Karl Gross and O’Lisboa successfully handle large brewery tanks to Brazil

PPG Germany partner, Karl Gross Internationale Spedition GmbH, Hamburg, together with PPG Brazilian member, O’Lisboa Despachos Int. Ltda., have successfully cooperated in handling several door-to-door shipments of brewery tanks and equipment. The large tanks (L 16.430 m, W 4.910 m, H 5.010 m, Weight 17.500 tonnes per piece) manufactured in Southern Germany were nested on supportive racks, but had to be shipped unpacked.

PPG Japan & Thailand Deliver Screen Baskets of HMC Polymers

PPG Japan (Allfort Co., Inc.) and Thailand (Leschaco (Thailand) Ltd.) have successfully delivered eight screen baskets, totally 775 CBM and 152 MT, from Japan to HMC Polymers in Thailand. The biggest piece had the dimensions of 17.2m x 3.2m x 3.5m and a weight of 30 tonnes. The scope of work comprised sea freight (carrier: Toko Line), import customs clearance, transport to site and lifting to foundation by a 200 tonne crane. The cargo was loaded in Osaka, Japan, on 11 June 2010 and arrived Laem Chabang Port, Thailand, on 7 July 2010. Delivery and lifting to foundation was completed within one day on 8 July 2010. The whole project operations, especially the delivery to site, complied with HMC’s strict safety rules and regulations.

2010 PPG Conference in Antwerp a Huge Success

The 2010 Project Professionals Group (PPG) conference afforded sponsors and special guest speakers the opportunity to speak about the Port of Antwerp's infrastructure and promote the local economy by appealing to shippers from around the world. 115 freight movers, ship owners and related industry companies from around the globe converged in Antwerp for the three-day event. The event was officially opened by The Port Alderman – Antwerp City Council, Mr. Marc Van Peel.

PPG Saudi Arabia Triumph For Sabiya Power Plant project

PPG Member for Saudi Arabia, Almajdouie Al Kazmi Heavylift Company, has secured the onshore freight forwarding contract for Kuwait-based Sabiya power plant project. The company, which is a joint venture between Almajdouie Group (Dammam, Saudi Arabia) and Al Kazmi (Kuwait), will handle about 300,000 F/T of cargo imported from various parts of world and will be responsible for the entire project management; customs clearance; and inland transportation of all material from various seaports and airports including local movement of heavy turbines/transformers / generators by barge operations from Sabiya seaport to the jetty.

Port of Corpus Christi Enhances its Rail Capabilities for Wind Component Movements

PPG PSM Member Port of Corpus Christi has announced that Class-I rail services from the three major rail companies can now be offered at the Port to move wind turbine components.  Last year, BNSF Railway and Union Pacific Rail Road (UP) began offering rail services to major manufacturers of wind energy components through Port Corpus Christi.   Last week, Kansas City Southern Railway Company (KCSR) moved their first wind tower train from Port Corpus Christi. With this move, all three Class-I carriers are now competing for wind component business in the region.

Port Corpus Christi Takes Over Naval Station Ingleside (NSI) “U.S. Naval Station Ingleside Lowers Its Flag Forever”

Corpus Christi, TX – On Friday, April 30, 2010 at 11:00 a.m., the United States Navy will host its last ceremony at Naval Station Ingleside to lower its flag forever at the quarterdeck area of the main administration building 100th.  The ceremony signifies the final official event by the United States Navy at Naval Station Ingleside and the official takeover of the property by Port Corpus Christi.

Port of Corpus Christi Police Enhances its Waterborne Capabilities “First All-Weather Patrol Vessel Arrives to the Port Police Department”

Corpus Christi, TX - On April 23, 2010, Port Corpus Christi Police Department launched its first all-weather, multi-purpose patrol boat. This first patrol boat is a 29’ aluminum hull vessel manufactured by SAFEBoat and it is powered by twin 4-stroke Mercury outboard engines. The vessel has a fully enclosed cabin equipped with A/C and heat. State of the art electronics provide the crew the ability to locate and track vessels, as well as to detect certain forms of radiation, gas, and other elements. A Forward-Looking-Infrared (FLIR) system and radar is installed which assists the crew in navigating during times of limited visibility. The FLIR system will assist the crew in detecting people/things in the water that otherwise might not be visible to the naked eye.  An underwater 3-D acoustic imaging device will aid the crew in detecting anomalies such as improvised explosive devices (IED’s). The SAFEBoat has forward and aft mounts capable of supporting light-rifle weapons systems.

PPG India Powers Along to Mozambique

PPG India, Express Transport Pvt. Ltd., has successfully concluded two of three prestigrous Government contracts for Transmission Line Tower Materials from India to Mozambique on a DDU basis, on behalf of Electricidade De Mocambique, EP. (EDM). The consignments, totaling of 1,200 tonnes,  were shipped in 20’ Heavy duty + 40’ GP containers.

Triple Desert Assault - PPG Members team up to deliver 18 transformers in Lybia

Three PPG Members have teamed up to deliver a consignment of transformers to Ghadames, 549 km southwest of Tripoli, near the borders with Algeria and Tunisia. The joint project to transport 18 high voltage transformers from the Port of Sétubal in Portugal to Lybia involved PPG members for Belgium Polytra N.V., Alship Navegação in Portugal, and Roland Spedition in Lybia. Polytra co-ordinated the project on behalf of Siemens Belgium with Alship Navegação ensuring safe shipment from the Port of Sétubal while Roland Spedition GmbH in Lybia was responsible for the reception, delivery and discharge of the transformers at a number of pumping station sites.

PPG has its own International Project Forwarding Education Program which is also accredited to ISO9001:2008 Standard. The first Course was conducted in Mumbai (January 2009); the second in Bremen (October 2009); and the third in Singapore (January 2010). The PPG Training Course has previously been named as a finalist in the 14th Annual Lloyd’s List DCN Australian Shipping and Transport Education and Training Award; and the Supply Chain & Logistics Association Annual Education and Training Award in 2009.

Third PPG Education Program in Singapore a Huge Success

PPG General Manager, Kevin Stephens; Sun Communications consultant, Rodger Hall; and Robin Ryan of Crux Investigation, have just returned from Singapore where they successfully concluded the third PPG Project Forwarding Education Course. The two-day course was held on Thursday 28th and Friday 29th January, 2010, immediately following PPG’s participation in the Breakbulk Asia conference and exhibition. All twenty two students received a Certificate of Achievement in Project Cargo Management at the end of the program. We are delighted to advise that the program was a huge success, with all students advising their complete satisfaction.
