Following the initial application, the German Customs usually allow 300 days until they either grant or deny AEO status. During this time regular audits are conducted. The AEO. status is a relatively new innovation in Germany and many companies are still in the application process. Throughout Germany 435 companies are registered as AEO to date. AEO certificate holders are usually producers, traders and freight forwarders. Such certification holds Karl Dross in good stead over their opposition, not only as this certificate means real benefits to their customers and partners, but also as receiving the certificate at this early on shows that they are “up to date” and walking the “extra mile” to secure possible benefits for their business partners.

In response to Karl Gross’s voluntary application a security examination of past customs records, business conduct and ethics was undertaken by teams of the German national Ministry of Finance as well as German customs authorities. The company successfully complied with all audits including the required financial standards, application of proper management and business procedures as well as meetings with operational personnel and physical inspection of Karl Gross workplaces.
