PPG Thailand moves new MDF/HDF Plant to Hat Yai, South Thailand |
 |
PPG Thailand (Leschaco (Thailand) Ltd.) has successfully concluded the movement of a new MDF/HDF Plant to Hat Yai in South Thailand. Port of destination for almost all shipments was Songkhla, Thailand. The project started in March 2011 and ended in November 2011. The major volume comprised of several shipments from Europe (mainly Germany), Shanghai (China) and various cross-border transports from Malaysia. In total 190 Containers and 8,500 m3 of break bulk were handled. The biggest break bulk charter came from Hamburg with 4,500 m3/ 103 pieces. PPG Support Member Sea Concert (Thailand) Ltd. assisted greatly with the break bulk bookings.

The biggest container lot came equally from Hamburg with 73x40’ on one vessel. Leschaco’s scope of work included sea freight, import customs clearance and BOI handling, transport from port to site as well as unloading/ unstuffing and positioning of the parts according to assembly sequence. The major challenges were a tight assembly schedule, L/C requirements vs. short transit time from China to Thailand and very limited space for discharge and unloading operations at Songkhla port and customer’s site. As no suitable sailing for the second break bulk lot ex Hamburg to Songkhla was available we decided to discharge 240 m3 (5 pieces) in Singapore and bring them via cross-border land transport through Malaysia to Thailand. PPG Member Megalift Sdn Bhd also supported Leschaco with an excellent performance on their part.
