‘Mine Blowing’ Result and Logistics Horses for Courses for PPG Kazakhstan |
|
PPG Kazakhstan, Globalink Logistics Group flexed its heavy lift muscles yet once again and proved why it is the leading transportation and freight management company in the region. Globalink recently transported three giant drilling rigs from a mine located in one of the most remote areas in Armenia to South Africa. Weighing in at over 40 tonnes and with oversized dimensions, these rigs, destined for Durban, had to be handled in various legs with different modes of transportation involved. Globalink’s team was onsite at the mining field to arrange and supervise the loading and subsequent lashing of these rigs. Cranes and forklifts were arranged for the loading process onto special lowbed and flat track trailers for the long journey (180km to the Georgian border and then an additional 350km to the Black Sea Port of Poti, Georgia). |

| While the distance was not one of the longest handled, the geographical layout of the region (extremely hilly with narrow roads) and Mother Nature (this was in the dead of winter with snow all around) certainly made this one of the most challenging projects undertaken. Upon arrival at Poti Port, our Georgia office, were in place to supervise the unloading of these rigs at the port. The vessel, chartered for this project, was already in place and with the loading onto the vessel done smoothly and quickly, the shipment departed for the final journey to Durban. Despite the terrain and weather challenges, the Globalink Armenia team working in tandem with their colleagues at Globalink Georgia, to ensure that the rigs reached their destination safely and on time as promised. A truly ‘Mine-blowing’ result. |

In equally challenging projects, Globalink Logisitcs Group, is well used to designing specific ‘horses for courses’ to meet the diverse logistics needs of its clients. Globalink, an inaugural member of the PPG and president and CEO, Siddique Khan, said two very different cargos, thoroughbred horses and Hummer military vehicles, required detailed planning to ensure successful delivery that met the needs of the customer. “We believe that the Globalink team has the experience and capabilities to meet any logistics challenge even those that many others would consider very challenging,” Mr Khan said. Recently, Globalink came bearing gifts for the Emir of Qatar from the President of Tajikistan. Tajikistan is well known in the equestrian world for breeding fine horses for both work and sport, and the gift of two high-spirited thoroughbred race horses was transported to their new home by a specially chartered Ilyushin 76 long-range air freighter. Mr Khan said that Globalink’s Dushanbe office completed all export formalities including the required veterinary certificates and provided a groom to accompany the horses on the long flight. Meanwhile, Globalink’s Kabul office, on behalf of the Portugal International Security Assistance Force, has also completed an unusual cargo of a different kind – this time to Afghanistan.

| Globalink’s Kabul office delivered a shipment of Hummer military vehicles from the Army base camp to Kabul Airport. This was only the first leg and possibly one of the hardest given the current military activities in the area. Globalink arranged for forklifts and cranes needed for the loading and subsequent lashing onto low bed trailers. Additionally, a police/army escort was arranged for the trek to Kabul Airport. All this was done throughout the night as part of a comprehensive security plan. Upon arrival at Kabul Airport, the chartered Ilyushin 76 was already in place and off loading from trailers to the aircraft took place in record time. Mr Khan said that Globalink staff were always present with the cargo every step of the way to ensure safe and timely shipment. |
