PPG Saudi Arabia in "World-Class Movement" for Ras Tanura DST Project |
|
The International projects Department (IPD) of Almajdouie Group secured a significant number of major projects in recent years and one such project was successfully concluded for Samsung Engineering which awarded through Hyupjin Shipping Korea. This major project included the haulage of oversize & heavy cargo with a total volume of 6,122.355 R/T, with the two heaviest Reactors weighing 403 tonnes and measuring L32.89m x W5.81m x H6.10m each.

| These Reactor Units were successfully transported to the job site using 12-axle conventional trailers. The journey of about 60 kms from Jubail to the Diesel Hydro Treatment (DHT) plant at Ras Tanura, KSA was successful, despite a heavy sandstorm on the Jubail – Maaden route, because of Almajdouie's expert route surveys made prior to the critical movement. Almajdouie has been in the business of heavy haulage for almost 4 decades and is accustomed to handling every shipment that presents real challenges. Prior to execution, the movement went through a rigorous planning process which included a thorough route survey to identify and obstactles such as the removal of street lights, signal lights, barricades, fencing & other street furniture. |

Almajdouie's Technical Department, with their latest technology, closely scrutinise cargo stability with an ultimate goal of “Safe & scheduled Delivery”. A Method Statement (MOS) is prepared which recommends the suitable trailer configuration, points of lashing methods of securing & studies the simulation to have swift trailer maneuvering at congested crossings. MOS together with the transportation drawings will duly be presented to the client who reconfirms the safe move.

When the vessel calls at the port for discharge heavy cargoes can only be accepted directly to the multi-axle trailers, due to port regulations and restrictions on "heavy" (above 20 tonnes) & "oversize" (above L12.00m x W2.50m x H2.50m). With real time updates & due coordination with the Ships Agent, trailers are pre-positioned for direct delivery to avoid vessel detention & cargo placed on stools at the lay down area. Following customs clearance, the cargo is transported to Almajdouie's own lay-down area where final delivery is affected according to the Client's delivery schedule and requirements. |

Reactors (1 and 2) were scheduled for delivery on 4th & 10th June 2009 and the Almajdouie operations team, complete with escorts, supervisors and crew, started the journey from the lay-down area on 31st May & 6th June 2009 respectively. At certain points major highways had to be negotiated which disturbed regular traffic for which the GRO (Government Relations Officer) obtained timely assistance from the local traffic police to ensure a smooth transition and minimal disruption. At another point nearby to the Site, high voltage electric cables were also successfully negotiated under the watchful eye of concerned authorities. The was power shut off during this crossing, with the cargo finally reaching Site safely and as scheduled on 4th & 10th 2009 respectively. All units were offloaded at Site and erected to the foundation using the site crane. |

Similarly, the next two heaviest units were the HP stripper & HP Absorber weighting 176 tonnes & 130 tonnes and measuring L37.82m x W4.81m x H5.06m and L25.61m x W3.46m x H3.73m respectively. These units were transported from a local fabricator in Jubail Gulf Heavy Industries (GHI) using 18-axle & 12-axle conventional trailers. Considering the location of this fabricator shop a new route survey was conducted which necessitated a move through the city limits and at some points went against traffic which demanded permissions from concerned authorities and their support personnel. Finally all units were delivered safe and sound fulfilling the demands of Almajdouie's valued customers. Finally, in late 2009 it is anticipated that Almajdouie will move another 11 similar units from Jubail to the Ras Tanura Jobsite.
