Experts who deliver solutions all the way to final delivery
PPG formally defines “Project Forwarding” as follows: "A project is the movement of non-conventional, out-of-gauge, large volume and/or heavylift cargoes that are outside of normal tariff provisions and transported in a manner that requires expert planning and innovation to each transaction".

herrenknecht201.jpgThe expression “turnkey project” and the concept of project forwarding entails contacting the suppliers, analysing the transportation needs, synchronising the deliveries within anticipated schedule needs, collecting and temporarily storing lots of goods which have to be delivered at the same time, packing, marking, documenting and moving goods in often non-standard packages by non-standard methods to or from non-standard destinations, to/from remote and possibly inaccessible global locations. This also requires careful consideration of shipping and aircraft with over-dimensional capabilities and their availability. PPG has a number of strategic partnerships that ensures access to safe and reliable modes of transportation.

A true project forwarder is the architect within the transport chain, identifying and designing the most cost-effective ways of moving complex cargoes and materials around the world, according to the customer's individual and sometimes very demanding needs. A project forwarder also has to be ready to cope with unexpected disruptions in deliveries and planning, and often be able to see the unforeseeable. PPG members are experienced problem solvers who are focused on results that ensure deliver is on time and on budget and always work in close collaboration with major customers to meet all goals and objectives.

ppggrabs07.jpgProject cargo is almost always invariably time-sensitive and a substantial investment may be at risk should materials arrive late, be incomplete or damaged at their ultimate destination. With more and more customers looking to the project forwarding industry to move entire factories and assembly lines intact and the increased demand for turnkey services, the industry leaders are carefully weighing the costs of transporting a project full size versus the traditional method of moving equipment. The increasing demands on Project Logistics specialists necessitate that only experienced professionals join PPG. As plant sizes are increasing, equipment sizes and weights are also increasing correspondingly; final destinations are more restrictive and careful planning and studies are becoming more essential. More than ever, turn-key project logistics requires specialised skills and the necessary know how of all parties. This is what PPG members offer!

With an increased demand and diversity of projects, the logistics industry is meeting new challenges head-on. Project cargo can still be considered a niche market – more than ever it requires specialised skills and global infrastructure support systems – but it is clearly expanding in both size and scope. Project cargo is any shipment of freight that cannot fit in a standard container or that is considered “out-of-gauge” or is outside of “normal” tariff provisions. This can include cargo that is exceptionally heavy, long, wide or comprised of complex components that must be disassembled, shipped and reassembled, or even shipped as huge modules. Freight of this nature requires specialised project cargo forwarding expertise.

ppg2.jpgSourcing and moving thousands of tonnes of equipment and material from multiple sources is a massive undertaking requiring sophisticated logistics capabilities, precise timing and worldwide connections to coordinate cargo movements from origin to destination. Depending on the final destination, project cargo shipments face many complex challenges. As the project forwarding industry branches out into new markets, logistics providers have nurtured new relationships and distribution channels throughout the world and as the nature of the cargo expands beyond heavy-lift resource equipment, they are acquiring additional expertise in turnkey project management.

Logistics providers are realising that if they want to compete in today’s global marketplace, they need to be able to keep pace with the demands of clients who require complete turnkey services from door to job-site - including managing the quoting process, route surveying, expediting purchase orders, warehousing, full and part charters, insurance, export packing, customs clearance, trade documentation, in-house representation and more.

PPG can solve the puzzle in a timely, efficient and safety-first manner!
